The Shrink Network: A Connected System for Mental Health
Most people don't need one website. They need to understand what's happening, do something about it day to day, and get real care when it matters. The Shrink Network is a connected family of mental health sites and apps built to cover all three, so the path from confused to cared for is shorter. Here's what each part does, and how they work together.

Why I built a network instead of one big site
People ask why I didn't just put everything on one website. The honest answer is that I watched patients get lost in sites that tried to do too much. The encyclopedia got in the way of the tools, the tools got in the way of care, and nobody could tell what was educational and what was medical. Splitting the work into focused properties was the only way I found to keep each one clear and trustworthy.
What I care about most is that one accountable clinician stands behind all of it. I'd rather put my name on a connected network held to a single standard than let mental health information drift into the anonymous, low-quality pile that fills so much of the internet. The structure isn't a marketing trick. It's how I think care should actually be organized.
What the Shrink Network actually is
The Shrink Network is a family of mental health websites and apps that share a philosophy and link to one another, rather than a single sprawling site trying to be everything. The idea is simple. Mental health has a few distinct needs, and a tool built for one job tends to do it better than a tool stretched across all of them. So instead of one cluttered destination, the network splits the work into focused properties that each do one thing well.
At the center is shrinkMD, the clinical practice where you can actually be evaluated and treated by a board certified psychiatrist. Around it sit education sites, reference libraries, and practice apps, each owned and overseen with the same standard of accuracy. You can browse the whole map at shrinknetwork.com or see how it all connects on our network overview page.
Three jobs: learn, practice, and get care
The network is organized around three things people actually do with their mental health. First, learn: understand what a symptom means, what a diagnosis involves, and what a medication does. Second, practice: build skills and habits between appointments, where most real change happens. Third, get care: be assessed and treated by a clinician when the situation calls for it. Separating these keeps each one honest and easy to use.
This matters because the three jobs have very different needs. Learning rewards depth and plain language. Practice rewards short, repeatable tools. Care requires a licensed clinician and clinical judgment. Bundling them tends to dilute all three. Keeping them distinct, but linked, lets you move between them naturally as your needs change.
The learning sites
For understanding, the network runs several focused libraries. Shrinkopedia is a plain-language encyclopedia of conditions, symptoms, treatments, and terms. PsychiatryRx is a reference for psychiatric medications, with drug profiles, comparisons, and guides. Shrinktionary defines the vocabulary in everyday English.
Two condition-specific libraries go deeper on the most common concerns. DepressionResource.org focuses on understanding and living with depression, and AnxietyResource.org does the same for anxiety, with AnxietyResearch.org translating the science into language you can use. Together they own the understand-it part of the journey.
The practice apps
Insight alone rarely changes anything; repetition does. The practice side of the network gives you structured ways to work between appointments. shrinQ offers a self-guided program and free tools. Be Unstuck is a wellness app for breaking the loops that keep people stuck. Quit Scrolling tackles one of the most underrated drains on modern mental health, the phone.
None of these replace care, and they don't pretend to. They're the gym between physical therapy visits, the place where the work you talk about with a clinician actually gets practiced. Used alongside learning and care, they're where momentum is built and kept.
How shrinkMD fits as the care arm
When a situation needs a clinician, the learning and practice sites point toward shrinkMD, the network's care arm. shrinkMD is a physician-led telepsychiatry practice where adults can be evaluated, diagnosed, and treated by video across several licensed states, with flat published fees. You can read how it works or about telepsychiatry itself.
The boundary is deliberate. Education sites tell you what something is; shrinkMD is where you get care for it. That separation is what lets each part be excellent, and it's why a person can read deeply, practice daily, and still land in real treatment without starting over each time.
Who's behind the network, and why it's built this way
The network is led by Dr. Shariq Refai, a board certified psychiatrist with more than fifteen years of clinical experience and the founder of shrinkMD. The same clinical standard runs through every property, which is the point. Health information online is only as good as the judgment behind it, and a network overseen by one accountable clinician is harder to dismiss than a scatter of anonymous pages.
The structure also reflects how care actually works. People rarely move in a straight line from symptom to solution. They circle: read, try something, read more, and eventually seek help. A connected network meets that real behavior instead of fighting it. Explore the pieces below, or start with how the network fits together.
Key takeaways

- It's organized around three needs: learning what's happening, practicing change between sessions, and getting clinical care when it matters.
- Learning lives on Shrinkopedia, PsychiatryRx, Shrinktionary, and the depression and anxiety resource sites; practice lives on shrinQ, Be Unstuck, and Quit Scrolling.
- shrinkMD is the care arm, where a board certified psychiatrist actually evaluates and treats you, and the other sites point toward it when care is needed.
- The network is led by one accountable psychiatrist, Dr. Shariq Refai, so the same clinical standard runs through every property.

Frequently asked questions
Good questions, clear answers
What's the Shrink Network?
The Shrink Network is a connected family of mental health websites and apps that share a clinical standard and link to one another. It's organized around three jobs: learning about mental health, practicing skills and habits between appointments, and getting real clinical care. shrinkMD is the care arm, and the other properties handle learning and practice. The idea is that focused tools each do one job better than a single site trying to do all of them.
What sites and apps are part of it?
The learning side includes Shrinkopedia (an encyclopedia), PsychiatryRx (a medication reference), Shrinktionary (a plain-English dictionary), and the condition libraries DepressionResource.org, AnxietyResource.org, and AnxietyResearch.org. The practice side includes shrinQ, Be Unstuck, and Quit Scrolling. shrinkMD is the clinical care practice, and shariqrefai.com is the site of the psychiatrist who leads the network.
Do I have to use all of them?
No. Each property is useful entirely on its own. You might read one article on Shrinkopedia and never touch the rest, or use one app daily without reading anything. The network simply means that when you do want to go further, the next step is one link away rather than a fresh search. Use as much or as little as fits your situation.
Is the Shrink Network a replacement for therapy or a psychiatrist?
The education and practice sites aren't care and don't replace a clinician. They're for understanding and for building habits. When you need diagnosis, medication, or ongoing treatment, that's what shrinkMD, the care arm, is for. The network is designed so you can move from reading and practicing into real care without losing your place.
How's this different from just searching the internet?
A general search returns a scatter of pages of unknown quality from unrelated sources. The Shrink Network is a curated, connected set of properties overseen by one accountable psychiatrist, built to a single clinical standard, that deliberately hand you off to the right next step. You get depth, consistency, and a clear path instead of a pile of conflicting results.
Who runs the Shrink Network?
It's led by Dr. Shariq Refai, a board certified psychiatrist with more than fifteen years of experience and the founder of shrinkMD. Having one accountable clinician oversee the standard across every property is what keeps the information trustworthy and consistent, which is increasingly important as low-quality health content floods the internet.
Is everything free?
The learning sites and many of the practice tools are free to read and use. shrinkMD, the clinical care arm, is a paid medical practice with flat, published fees, because it involves a licensed psychiatrist providing actual treatment. The split keeps free education genuinely free and keeps clinical care held to a medical standard.
Where should I start?
Start with whatever matches your need right now. If you want to understand something, begin on the relevant learning site. If you want to build a habit, try a practice app. If you think you need care, start with shrinkMD. If you aren't sure, the network overview page and the guide to how the network fits together will point you to the right door.
